Sleeping too much?

It's such irony that now I'm blogging about Aston sleeping too much in a day.  I know I should be happy because many parents wish for their child to sleep more but sometimes I think to myself that should I be worried? Take today for instance, he woke up at 8.30am and was still yawning away but couldn't fall asleep till about 11.45am.  He woke up again at 12.30pm and then fell asleep again 1 hour later.  At 1.30pm he slept all the way to 5.30pm!! And at 7.00pm he started to yawn again and slept at 7.30pm till 8.30pm.  He slept again at 10.15pm.

Is Aston sleeping too much? I tried feeding him extra since he skipped one feed I assume he will be very hungry after he woke up at 5.30pm but he didn't manage to finish it.  Worry number 2 is he drinking enough milk? Worry number 3 is it because he spend so much time sleeping that he is not pooping? It has been 3 days since he last poop.  Even though the doctor reassured me that it's OK if he does not poop daily but how many days gap is healthy? Doctor just told me as long as the stools are soft is OK.

Luckily when he's awake he's quite alert and we manage to squeeze in some chats and tummy time otherwise I will have Worry number 3 is he being stimulated enough?

Worries of a first time mum..........I guess it will never end....

Lousy Mommy!

I had a rough day with Aston today and I must admit that I brought it upon myself.  Yes, it hit me hard today to make me realised how incompetent I am as a mother.  Aston woke up a little cranky this morning but it was manageable.  (I miss the 2 month old Aston where he greeted me with a warm smile every morning).  Anyway, I insist no matter how cranky Aston is I must follow strictly to our daily routine hoping that one day he will just get used to it.  I've also read a few websites that advices a routine makes babies calmer as they know what to expect.

Anyway, when he woke up this morning I knew that he was still tired but having trouble falling back to sleep.  I thought I could repeat what I did yesterday... well actually I wanted to repeat what I did yesterday because whatever I did yesterday worked very well for Aston.  So, I picked him up and took him out for a walk in the garden thinking that I can still put him back to sleep again after the walk because that's what happened yesterday.  Unfortunately, today I didn't manage to put him back to sleep.  He got even more cranky after the walk and the moment I lay him down he started to fuss and cry.  So I picked him up again and carried him for a while and tried putting him down again.  He cried again! By 10.30am I fed him and he calmed down.  I wanted to wait till 11am because that's what happened yesterday.  He finally took his nap at noon and at the back of my head because I wanted to repeat what I did yesterday so badly that I kept thinking his next feed will be at 5pm just like yesterday.

He woke up roughly about 2pm and I was thinking to myself that he will sleep again because he didn't manage to take his morning nap.  I tried comforting him and did what I could for him to fall back asleep but failed.  I picked him up and put him on his play gym and he wasn't really enjoying his time there but I kept him distracted.  I thought maybe because he still wants to sleep ( he slept till 4.30pm yesterday) so I tried giving him pacifier and his beanbag but he rejected and started to cry very loudly.  I picked him up walked around the house put him down on his chair and finally at 3pm I decided to thaw my breastmilk thinking maybe he may want to have an earlier feed.  I tried putting him back on his crib but he started crying very loudly.  I carried him and this time round it didn't soothe him.  This is the first time that when I carry him he is still crying! I started to worry that could it be because he has not poop since yesterday and struggling to past motion? Could it be wind in his stomach? Could it be he's 'siu hei' since I blogged yesterday that things are better or that when 'yeh yeh' asked whether Aston got 'kacau' or not I will always defend him saying no he is very good boy.  Yes...it came to a point where I started to be superstitious.  In the end, I didn't know what to do I bought an application from Apple called the Cry Translator.  I tested the application and it says HUNGRY! I thought hmmm.. let's see how accurate so at 3.30pm I fed Aston (my initial plan of earlier feed was 4.30pm) and all this while Aston been trying to tell me he's HUNGRY!!

He finished his milk and fell asleep immediately.  Then I recalled back how silly of me.  Of course he's hungry his last feed was at 10.30am!! I have been taking care of him for 3 months now and I still can't tell that he's hungry! I need a cry translator to tell me that he's hungry! I felt so guilty as I could have been starving my child! Poor Aston..! I'm such lousy mommy! I told myself from now on forget about what happen in the past even the day before.  Just do what's necessary to keep Aston happy!

Lazy...Lazy....

I think it has been two weeks since I last update my blog.  Why? Well, Aston's been really cranky recently especially in the morning and after I got him settle down I felt so tired that I just want to lay back and watch my tvb dramas.  In other words, I'm just lazy!

Till today I am not sure what went wrong.  We were doing so great and all of a sudden one morning he woke up no longer smiling and cheerful.  He will fuss and struggle to fall asleep and this goes on till about 11am.  He doesn't nap long so when he's awake he will fuss again.  He seems to be tired all the time! He doesn't have interest to play or do anything besides from being carried and bath.  The worst part is I can tell that he's sleepy but before he gave himself a chance to fall asleep he will get agitated and start to cry.  He can be sucking his pacifier, eyes closed and hugging his beanbag but agitated and frustrated at the same time.  Mommies out there...is there a reason for this?

Anyway, now that I'm blogging again today that shows that things had improved.  I have adjusted his schedule accordingly and *touchwood* things been better these few days.  From this I realised that I'm so lucky to be a stay at home mother.  Babies really do change overnight! I mean just one morning Aston woke up and he's schedule changed which I obviously didn't know which causes all the frustration between us and papa too! It was like one day he woke up and decided that he needs more sleep and drink more each feed but fewer times a day!  Now one feed of 5oz can last him for about 4-5hours.  At times it can last up till 6-7 hours during the night.  It took me two weeks to realise this! Shame on me! Nevertheless, I am quite concern with the amount of sleep in a day that he needs.  Here I am thinking that they sleep lesser as they grow older.  Well, I've thought about it and came to a conclusion that just let him be to avoid more frustration down the road.  I think he has my genes.  We love our sleeps!

Time really flies... Aston is 3 months old now.  The last check up he weighs 6.52kg and his height is 58cm.  As I mentioned in my previous entries I will do my best to take photos of him every month so here goes....
Aston 3 Months and 1 Day Old

Yay! He can finally lift his head..not for very long though

Recently he found a new toy...his hands

16 June 2011

Aston woke up at 1.30am for his feed.  Papa fed him because papa said I looked very tired and more over papa was not asleep yet.  Aston woke up again at 5.30am.  Tried the pacifier trick but it didn't work so I guess he was hungry.  I fed him and burped him.  Again, he didn't fell asleep instantly so I lay him on the crib and I expressed my breastmilk.  He fell asleep while I was expressing my milk.  I went back to bed thinking and hoping that he will wake up about 9.30am.

Well, he woke up at about 8.45am.  As usual, I went over to greet him and he returned with a big smile.  I told him that I'm going to feed him first, then change him and we will go to the garden for a walk.  So that was exactly what we did.  During the walk he was yawning and yawning so I thought he wanted to sleep again.  So I lay him down on the crib with his pacifier and just watched him.  He started talking and talking and it gets louder and louder that it really cracks me up.  He even have facial expression! Today he made some new sounds and they are loud! I really wonder what they mean.  It was so loud that papa woke up thinking the house alarm went off.  At about 10.30am I calm him down by giving him his pacifier as I didn't want him to get over excited and not able to take his morning nap.  He fell asleep after 10 minutes or so.

Papa went to work while I quickly freshen up.  At about 11.00am he woke up again but he didn't make much noise.  He was just staring at the cot bumper and he's eyes were kind of drowsy looking.  So I let him be until 11.30am he was just lying on his crib staring at the ceiling fan, cot bumper basically looking around the room.  I picked him up and fed him but this time he couldn't finish his feed.  He looked very distracted and was always smiling away.  Could it be his vision are clearer than yesterday? Anyway, it was just less than 1oz so I let it go and burped him.  I put him down on his rocking chair and we started to chat.  I think he found a new sound that he can make because he repeated that loud noise that papa thought it was the house alarm.  It cracks me up everytime I hear it.

I placed him on the playgym as I needed to express my breastmilk.  He didn't look too enthusiastic about it but he didn't fuss so I let him be.  After I was done with expressing I thought he was tired so I put him down on his crib but he's eyes was still wide open.  After 10 minutes or so I picked him up again and we had tummy time both flat on the bed and supported by pillow.  As usual after 5 minutes or so he started to fuss about it.  This time round he looked tired so I put him back in his crib and gave him his pacifier and he fell asleep about 1.15pm.

Grandmama came to visit and bought me lunch today together with grandpapa and uncle Kenny.  Aston only woke up at about 3.30pm.  Grandmama fed him and played with him for a little while before they went home at 4.30pm.  Aston was a little bit moody so I thought he wanted to sleep more.  I put him on his crib and observed him and he show no sign of doozing off.  So I decided to pick him up again and we did some tummy time.  Not long after he started fussing again and this time I put him back in his crib and he fell asleep.

He woke up again at about 5.30pm.  I quickly express my breastmilk so that I can bath him after.  Papa came home early today so he bathed Aston.  After bath, as usual I'll take him downstairs to say good night but this time yeh yeh was taking his nap.  So came back to the room thinking maybe we can have a chat first before feeding but he started fussing.  I thought he was sleepy which I think he was so I tried putting him on the crib to sleep but he fuss even more and started to cry.  He even refused the pacifier so I thought maybe he wants his milk before sleeping.  So I quickly prepare his milk and papa fed him.  True enough he finished the milk and yeh yeh came up to check on him because he was crying so loud.  Anyway, yeh yeh stayed in the room talking to papa and Aston just listen quietly.  At 7.15pm I told papa Aston needs to sleep.  Aston was over tired so he got frustrated because he couldn't fall asleep.  It took him nearly 20 minutes before he stop fussing and calm down and fall asleep.

Yeh yeh called for dinner and papa shouted OK from the room and woke Aston up.  He got really cranky and didn't sleep until 8.00pm.  Hopefully, he's schedule is not disturbed today as he was a little moody today......

15 June 2011

If you noticed I didn't write anything yesterday because I've been playing facebook games with the available time during the day that by night I'm too tired to do any blogging.  Yes.. I've turned into one of those victims who spend hours on facebook planting.. baking...curing animals and whatever not.

So today I decided to start my engine going.  Well, Aston started fussing at 5am this morning.  He was squirming a lot with his eyes closed.  He was smacking his lips which was a sign of hunger but his eyes were still closed! There I was half awake thinking is he awake or dreaming? Should I feed him? In the end, I decided to give the pacifier a try.  And yes it worked.  He calmed down once the pacifier was in his mouth.  I assumed he was half asleep so I went back to bed.  He woke up again at 6am.  This time round he's eyes were opened.  I quickly make him his milk.  I changed him first and then fed him.  He didn't fall asleep after feeding like how he normally would but he was yawning.  I put him down on his crib and gave him his pacifier and I expressed my breastmilk.  After I was done with expressing, he was already asleep.  I looked at the clock and it was already 7am.  I quickly jumped back on bed and fell asleep again.

I heard Aston's voice again at 9.30am.  I wasn't sure whether it was his voice who woke me up or papa's phone.  Anyway, I greeted him and he gave me this big smile.  I told him that I'm going to go make his milk and after that I'll get him change and we'll go down to the garden for a walk.  He looked at me excitedly as if he understood what I just said to him.  While I was attending to him, papa got himself ready for work but went out to take away Mcdonalds breakfast for both of us.  Ahhh such satisfying breakfast.  Beat roti canai anytime!

Papa went to work after breakfast while Aston and I had our little morning chats.  At about 11am he started to fuss so I quickly put him down on his crib and gave him his pacifier but he didn't fall asleep.  He ended up talking to his puppy book and then started smiling again.  So I lay him on the play gym and we did some tummy time.  He got grumpy after 5 minutes of tummy time so I put him back in his crib and 20 minutes later he fell asleep.  I quickly took my bath thinking that he may be awake any moment.  He woke up at 12.15pm and was showing signs of hunger.  I fed him and burped him.  I put him on his rocking chair so that we can chat and while we were chatting he poop.  In my heart I was saying yayyy because he didn't poop yesterday.  I cleaned him up and lay him on the play gym while I expressed my breastmilk.  We did tummy time and again it only lasted about 5 minutes or so and he started to fuss.  Until today he still doesn't enjoy tummy time.  At about 1.30pm I lay him on his crib with the pacifier and he fell asleep.

At about 3.30pm he woke up sucking his hands.  I went over to say hello and he smiled but the very next second he started to fuss.  I gave him his pacifier and he fell asleep again.  He woke up again at 4.15pm.  I went over to talk to him and he responded with some ooohhs and ahhhss.  I fed him and we had a chat while the maid cleans the room.  We played at the play gym and had more tummy time and by 5.30pm he started to yawn.  I put him down on his crib for him to sleep.

He woke up again at about 6.15pm so I quickly get him ready for bath.  After bath, we said good night to yeh yeh and I fed him.  At about 7.00pm I put him down in his crib as he was yawning and yawning. He didn't manage to fall asleep though.  I just let him be while I had my dinner.  He finally fell asleep about 7.45pm.  I'm expecting him to wake up about midnight..therefore I'm going to take my break now....

13 June 2011

Aston woke up 10 minutes to 7am.  I was thinking wow he slept 6 hours straight! Anyway, after feeding he went back to sleep.  Papa was also awake as we planned to have breakfast before we check out.  So after both of us got ready Aston woke up just in time to enjoy the morning sun.  We didn't request for the buggy to fetch us to the main reception area.  We took a slow walk to enjoy the fresh air and morning sun.  Papa took some photos while we were walking.  The breakfast was a major dissappointment.  Not sure why but there were a lot of flies!! There were even flies on the bread! The food quality was also very poor.

We wanted to explore the resort before we leave but after we're done with our breakfast Aston started to fuss for milk.  Initially we planned to request for hot water to heat up the milk where we had our breakfast but the service there was also very poor so we decided to go back to our cabin.  After feeding we started to pack up and decided to head back home.

The drive back home was also very pleasant.  I would say Aston nearly slept all the way home.  He woke up when we were approaching Seremban and fall back asleep about 15 minutes later.  After we arrived home, I changed him to his home clothes and fed him.

I decided to return to my office to officially confirm my resignation and packed some of my personal belongings.  So papa took care of Aston while I went out.  Yes... I'm officially a stay at home mum and enjoying every single minute of it.

12 June 2011

We went down to Malacca to attend a friend's wedding.  Both papa and I were looking forward to our first family trip.  Even though it was only for one night, we started thinking what should we pack especially Aston's things a week earlier!

Anyway, the morning started as usual and I bathed Aston before we left.  We intended to leave the house at 12.30pm but didn't manage to.  We only left about 1.45pm as I wanted to feed him first and papa wanted to make sure we brought everything that we need.  Well, happy to say that the drive to Malacca was very pleasant.  Aston slept not long after we left the house.  He woke up when we were passing by Seremban and was listening diligently to what papa and I were talking in the car.  He fell asleep again about 20 minutes later and only woke up when we arrived at our hotel.

We stayed at Philea Resort.  Is a cabin style resort.  The ambience of the resort is not too bad however I must admit it is not really baby friendly.  Well, the only drawback is that access within the resort is not stroller friendly because the cabins are only accessible either by foot or buggy and the pavement is very uneven.  It was a very bumpy ride on the buggy imagine if you're pushing a baby on the stroller! Anyway, I did manage to request for a baby cot and it's free! Not sure whether all hotels provide baby cot for free... this is my first time checking into a hotel with a baby.  We wouldn't mind coming back to this resort again provided that by then Aston can walk so that we can explore the resort.   The room rates well.... I would say close to Avillion in PD.

The wedding banquet was also held at the same hotel.  We were surprised by the amount of children attended the wedding.  We thought we will be the odd one out but I guess we're not the only one! Anyway, the table that we were seated was quite close to the exit door which was good and we manage to find a place to park the stroller.  We were prepared for the worst during the banquet but looking around the tables with infants both papa and I are very proud parents.  Aston behaved so well that it amazes both of us! Papa was so worried that Aston will be afraid of the loud noise and kept asking whether should he carry him out of the ballroom.. I insisted he stay put unless he started crying very loudly which he didn't even get close to that.  When the banquet started he slept in his stroller.  He did woke up during the marched-in and the food presentation but fell asleep again after that until the third dish when the emcee made some announcements and video presentation.  He did startled during the yum-sing session but papa's hand was always with him to comfort him.  After all that noise, he started getting drowsy again.

We left before the dinner ended as we wanted to try some local food.  We ended up at Medan Ikan Bakar.  While we were driving there Aston slept in the car until we arrived.  The food was not too bad especially the grilled fish and nasi lemak.  Aston was awake the whole time during our feast but we kept him entertained by talking to him.  He was showing signs of hunger so I told papa that we can't drag too long.  We left immediately after we finished our meal and went back to the hotel.  Aston slept again in the car.  I got a bit worried that he might not sleep once we arrive back to our hotel as he's been sleeping so much during the day.  Anyway, I kept a positive mind.  Once we arrived back into our room, I changed him to pyjamas and fed him.  Papa was chatting with him while I took my shower and get ready for bed.  Once I was done, he was showing signs that he wanted to sleep so we quickly put him down on the crib with his pacifier and he fell asleep within 10 minutes.

Both papa and I joined him in slumber land not long after.......

11 June 2011

I must admit that I've been a little bit lazy writing this blog over the weekend.  Therefore, I can't recall what Aston's schedule was like on Saturday.  All I could remember was that we had an appointment to meet up with Aston's great grand aunties and uncles for lunch.

Anyway, the day went something like this....

He woke up pretty much the usual timing (I think) and we went about doing our normal routine ie. went to the garden for a walk.  The electrician came to fix up the power points for the refrigerator and I'm proud to say that Aston did not fuss with the noise going on just outside our room.  It was actually time for his nap when the electrician started to fix the wiring.  I still go about the normal routine by putting him in his crib with his pacifier but I stayed with him the whole time.  I can see that he tried to fall asleep but because of the noise he can't seem to do so.  Eventhough he had difficulties falling asleep, he did not fuss either which I'm so proud of.

By 11am papa asked me to get ready for lunch and after that I got Aston ready to go out.  I changed him and fed him.  We left the house about noon and head to Tai Thong in Subang for dim sum.  I was hoping that he will sleep on the way to the restaurant so that he won't be grumpy when we are having our lunch due to lack of sleep.  It was a blessing in disguise that he didn't slept.  We placed him on the stroller the whole time and he slept while we were eating.  Ahh one of those moments I'm again so proud of him.  He woke up after we were nearly done with our lunch.  I quickly finished my lunch and he started getting grumpy.  I quickly ask papa to heat up the milk and I fed him.  He couldn't finish his feed because he was too distracted but at least he's won't be hungry on the way back home.  After burping him, I put him back on the stroller and distracted him with the hanging mobile.  After a while, he started getting drowsy and fell asleep again.  I can't remember whether did he slept on the way home.

Anyway, we were at home for the rest of the day.  We started packing for our first family trip to Malacca.  Actually, we are going there to attend a friend's wedding.  It was only for one night and the amount of things that we packed as if we are there for a 3 days 2 nights stay! I guess this is the part where people say travelling with baby is a hassle! But honestly, I was quite excited and so was papa.  He  was the one who packed Aston's bag!

Sunday was papa's birthday and papa requested for Japanese food at home.  'Yeh yeh' went to Lake Club to buy back some sashimi, california rolls, japanese salad, popiah and also 2 slices of cake.  Aston behaved so well that after bath and feed he went straight to sleep just in time for us to have dinner.  I remembered he woke up about 10pm and I fed him 5oz because his last feed before he slept was more than 6 hours ago.  Anyway, he went back to sleep after finishing his milk and I went to bed too.

10 June 2011

Aston slept very well again.  I feel so lucky compared to a girlfriend of mine who had to suffer for 6 months because her daughter refuse to sleep.  Anyway, Aston woke up at 4am for his feed and went straight to sleep after that.  He did fuss a little when I changed his diapers.  I still can't get the hang of wearing pants for him.  Yes... my son do not wear any bottoms when he's at home.  Mamypoko is the only piece of material he wears during the day.  Anyway, after the 4am feed both of us slept really well.  Again, I was woken up by my engorged breast at 8.00am.  I dragged myself out of bed to express my milk while Aston is still sound asleep.  After expressing I was contemplating whether to return to bed or freshen up.  I choose to return to bed.  Aston woke up at 8.45am.  This time round I fed him first because he was a little cranky.  Not the usual smiley face when I went to greet him.  After feeding, I changed him to his day clothes, changed his diapers and we went down to the garden for a walk.  This morning I tried using the sling.  I sling him using the tummy to tummy position.  He seems OK during the walk but after 10 minutes or so he started to fuss.  So I went back into the house placed him on the rocking chair and we had our usual chat.  Somehow, today's chat was a little bit different.  The tone of his voice was not as happy or excited as before.  The tone is more towards agitated.  It was 10am and I thought maybe he's sleepy so I placed him back in the crib and gave him his pacifier.  He was squirming, making noises but he did not cry.  Papa woke up with his loud voice so we decided to have a family bonding session on our bed.  By 11am he fell asleep so I quickly went to take my shower while papa went out to buy lunch. Initially, we wanted to have duck rice but the shop was not opened yet so we settled for fish head bee hoon.  Yummy!

Well, as I expected, after I came out from shower, Aston was awake.  He's not as cheerful as the past few days but not in a foul mood either.  I placed him on the play gym and we played for 10 minutes or so and he started asking for his milk.  This time round I didn't thaw the milk early enough so it wasn't warm enough.  I tried to distract him while the milk continue to warm up but he was not very happy.  At about 11.45 I fed him and burped him.  I placed him on the rocking chair where we had our lunch.  He started pooping half way through our lunch.  Yayy! Today is poop day! (He did not poop yesterday)  Anyway, papa offered to clean him up.  Thank you papa.  After I finished my lunch papa went to work. I tried to chat with Aston.  It started with some smiles and ah goos but after that the tone was back to being agitated.  I quickly place him back in the crib and gave him his pacifier.  He was fussing, throwing tantrums with his hands and kicking his legs really hard on the bed.  He looked so cute because the way he sounds as if he's trying to complain about something which I suspect he's having trouble falling asleep as he's over tired so he got frustrated.  After about 10 minutes or so I gave in to him because he just got louder and louder and I know if I don't pick him up soon he's going to give me a loud cry.  Mind you while he's throwing tantrums he's not crying.  He just make loud noises like mmmmaaahhh aaaahhhhh something like that.  Oh yes and he like to fake cough which worries me sometimes because when he does that he sounds like he's going to choke.  Anyway, I picked him up and placed him on our bed and I slept next to him, stroking his tiny hands.  In less than 10 minutes he fell asleep and I transferred him back to his crib.

He woke up again at 2.30pm.  Slightly better mood than earlier.  He looked hungry again so I quickly fed him.  I even gave him more breastmilk and he finished it.  Perhaps is time to increase his feeding to 5oz? Let's see how he progress in the next few days.  Anyway, grandmama came again to check whether the pants that she altered fits Aston.  Grandmama is helping us to changed all the elastic bands on Aston's pants.  I'm not sure why all the pants that was either given or bought is so tight! That's one of the reasons why I don't give Aston wear pants.  Until recently where we can't swaddle him tight anymore he tends to kick off the blanket in the middle of the night so I thought is time that he needs to wear long sleeve shirt and long pants so that he doesn't feel cold and also to avoid mosquito bites.  Oh yes! He woke up this morning having 7 mosquito bites all on his left face! :( Anyway, grandmama bought me KFC Zinger burger and some portugese tarts for my tea.  Yummy!  Aston also took some photos with grandmama and grandpapa.  After grandmama and grandpapa left Aston was showing signs that he wants to sleep again.  I think he's mood is according to the weather.  Today is a gloomy day so is his mood.  Yup... he fell asleep at about 4pm.

He woke up again at about 4.30pm.  Shortly after he woke up, he had hiccups so I decided to feed him his milk.  I gave extra again this time round but he couldn't finish it.  Anyway, I guess today is one of those days that he's not in a chatty mood.  I tried getting his rhythm going to have our usual conversation but failed.  I put him on his play gym instead and played with him but somehow today he's just not in the mood.  I thought he was sleepy so I gave him his pacifier but he didn't want it.  He started yawning at about 5.45pm while I was expressing milk.  I bathed him after I expressed my breastmilk.  He started to get cranky when I was dressing him.  I thought he wanted to sleep so I put him in his crib and he started his mmmmaaaaa aaahhhhhh.  I tried soothing him with the pacifier but failed so I quickly fetch him his milk.  He fell asleep towards the end of the feed but woke up again after the burp.  I took him downstairs to say good night to 'yeh yeh'.  By 7.15pm he cried so I quickly took him back to the room, put him in his crib and gave him his pacifier but still didn't manage to stop him crying.  I picked him up again and put him on our bed with the pacifier and slept very close to him and comfort him and he finally calmed down.  Phew! This is the first time I can't soothe him with a pacifier! Is my nightmare starting?? I seriously hope not! Anyway, he fell asleep after about 7.30pm and woke up again 10 minutes later crying.  I quickly soothe him with the pacifier and thankfully this time round it works and he slept again.  I guess he's just moody today.  I mean we get moody at times right?

Well, 'yeh yeh' just told me that Aston and I are booked for lunch appointment with all the great grand aunties and uncles tomorrow.  Tomorrow will be the first time we are going out with yeh yeh without papa.  Papa is staying home tomorrow because the electrician is coming to fix the house.   Let's hope that Aston is not as moody as today.

Aston did very well this morning.  He woke up at 3.30am for his feed after a 5 hours sleep.  He immediately went back to sleep after his feed.  Both of us slept so well that I only woke up because my breast was starting to get engorged.  I looked at the clock and it was already 7am.  Aston was still asleep so I dragged myself out of bed to express my breastmilk.  Half way through, Aston woke up.  As usual, he started sucking his hands and looking at his puppy book.  It didn't took him long to get fussy.  I assumed  because he's hungry.  After expressing, I quickly made him his milk and fed him.  He looked very much wide awake after the feed.  I tried my luck by placing him in his crib hoping that he will sleep again so that I can freshen up.  Well, I waited and waited till it was about 8.45am and finally he fell asleep.  I quickly took my shower and return to find him awake again! Since it's already 9am, I changed him to day clothes and took him downstairs to say good morning to 'yeh yeh' and to grand aunty Mary.  Grand aunty Mary was checking him out.  The usual, eyes, ears, mouth & feet.

Anyway, Aston's vision is much clearer and could see further now.  He's very interested in the ornaments placed on top of the sliding door.  Everytime he sees it his eyes will not blink! We also walked around the garden and enjoy a little bit of morning sun.  After the walk, we had our little chat.  Aston's voice is getting louder by the day so I guess it woke papa up and in the end papa joined in the conversation too! We moved to the play gym to play as he was still quite alert and he got fussy after a while.  I suspect that he was overtired as he was struggling to fall asleep and got really cranky.  Finally at 11.00am he fell asleep.

He woke up about noon but went back to sleep after I gave him the pacifier.  He woke up again much better mood half an hour later just in time for grandmama to play with him.  Grandmama came to visit today and bought me fried tang hoon.  Anyway, she played with Aston while I had my lunch.  She also fed Aston at about 1.30pm.  He slept again not long after his feed and woke up again at 3pm.  Grandmama left at about 3.30pm and I continued to play with Aston.  I fed him at 3.45pm and chat for a while on his rocking chair.  I moved him to the play gym so that I can express my breastmilk which is long overdue.  Anyway, after expressing I noticed that Aston showing signs that he's ready for his nap so I put him in his crib and gave him his pacifier.  It took him only 5 minutes to fall asleep.

Aston woke up again at 5.00pm and I quickly gave him a bath, put on his going out clothes and fed him as we are all going out for dinner at Happy Wok.  He behaved very well through out the dinner.  I can't wait to bring him out more often!! Anyway, on the way home Aston got really fussy as he's beginning to get hungry.  The moment we reached home papa quickly heat up the milk and I quickly changed him into his pyjamas and also changed his diapers getting him ready for his sleep.  Somehow when he's hungry and start to get cranky the milk warms up slower than usual! Anyway, we couldn't wait any longer and fed him luke warm milk.  After burping him I put him in his crib and he started talking to his puppy book and fell asleep at 10pm.  I guess he will wake up again somewhere around 3.00am for his next feed.  Well done Aston! Both papa & I love you so much!

8 June 2011

I thought Aston's sleeping pattern more or less stable but not this morning! He woke up at midnight for his feed as I expected.  Maybe I had my hopes too high up... I thought he will sleep all the way till about 6am or 7am.  Unfortunately, he woke up at 4.00am.  This time round I didn't say much too him just gave him a pat and told him that I'm going to go make his milk.  I didn't want to get him too excited at 4am! Well, before feeding I changed his diaper and he thank me by peeing before I could secure the new diaper on him.  So I had to clean him up and change his clothes.  Luckily the mess was very minor.  Anyway, after feeding and burping he went straight to sleep and so did I.

At 5.30am I heard his voice again.  I woke up took a peep and his eyes were still closed and sucking his hands.  I let him be and went back to sleep.  I woke up again at 6.00am to check on him and he's asleep so I expressed my breastmilk thinking that by doing so I can sleep longer.  At 7.00am I heard his voice again. This time round he's wide awake and when I went to greet him he gave me this big smile.  I knew he was wide awake.  I took a gamble by feeding him again thinking that maybe he's hungry again that's why he woke up.  True to a certain extend because he drank 95% of the milk.  He fell asleep by the way that's why he couldn't finish it and when I removed the bottle from him the balance of the milk spilled out from his mouth hence I had to change his top because the milk dripped all over his shirt and neck.  He woke up after I burped him but I just lay him back on his crib and gave him his pacifier.  I took a peep at him 15 minutes later and he's asleep so I continue to sleep.

I heard him again 15 minutes to 9am.  I was so groggy this time round that I couldn't even get out of bed.  I put my glasses on but still lying on bed hoping that he will fall asleep again.  By 9.15am he gave a loud 'Ahhh' which is his cue to get attention so I force myself to wake up and I tried giving him the pacifier but he didn't want it.  He was actually smiling and waving his arms in the air so I knew he's wide awake.     Again, I fed him and this time round he managed to finish 98% of the milk and after burping him I took him to the garden for a walk.  By 10am I put him on his rocking chair and we chat for a while.  He started to get a little bit cranky and yawning so I changed his diapers and put him on his crib.  I let him self soothe with his pacifier while I quickly went to freshen up.  Papa woke up and bought us brunch before he went to work.  I requested for nasi lemak because I was very very hungry! Anyway, after I freshen up I heard Aston's 'Ahhh' again so I quickly rush to him.  I gave him his pacifier which fell out and he fall asleep almost instantly.  I quickly rush to take my shower and by the time I'm done papa already came back with the nasi lemak and 'cham-ice'.  After brunch, we found Aston was actually awake silently talking to his puppy book.  Papa gave a good bye kiss and went to work while I attend to Aston.  I gave him his pacifier again and he fell asleep again.  Hmmm... is it sign that he's maturing because what I read on the internet was as they grow older they take longer naps during the day and sleep through the night.  I hope so because the time now is 12.45pm and he's still asleep! Time for me to express my milk too!

Aston woke up at about 1pm.  He woke up a little bit cranky.  I quickly changed his diaper and fed him. He's mood improved after the feed and burp.  The maid was cleaning the room, so we sat at the living area outside our room and I switched on channel 618 on Astro which is babyTv.  I'm not sure whether can he see or not but he was sitting on my lap facing the tv for about 10 minutes or so.  After that I carried him around the house and return back to his rocking chair.  I looked at the clock it was already 2.00pm! Geez time really flies! Anyway, we chatted for about 5 minutes or so and he started pooping.  Yay!! I cleaned him up and lay him on the play gym.  We played for another 10 minutes or so and he started having hiccups.  About 2.30pm he started getting cranky with the hiccups so I lay him on his crib and gave him his pacifier.  He closed his eyes and after a few sound of hiccups he fell asleep.

It's 3.30pm and Aston woke up for a while, sucking his hands, kicking and punching the air.  I went over to say hello and he was not very happy.  The look on his face says that he needs more sleep.  I gave him his pacifier and let him settle himself and yes he fell asleep again and woke up at 4.30pm.  He gave me a big smile when I went to greet him.  I fed him, burped him and I put him on his rocking chair.  It only lasted for 10 minutes or so and he started getting cranky and yawning.  I refused to give in this time worried that he will not be able to sleep later in the night.  Anyway, I put him on the play gym and kept him distracted until 5.45pm where I expressed my breastmilk and gave him a bath at 6.15pm.  After bath, took him down to say good night to 'yeh yeh' and I fed him at 6.45pm.  He fell asleep while drinking his milk but still manage to finish it.  However, 10 minutes later he's awake and having a hard time falling asleep till about 8.15pm.

Aston woke up again at 8.45pm.  He looked like he's not falling back asleep so I picked him up and put him on the play gym.  I decided to feed him first because I wanted him to go back to sleep by 10.00pm the latest.  After feeding, I put him on the rocking chair and we had our little chat.  He got cranky after a while so I moved him back to the play gym.  By 9.30pm he's showing signs that he's tired so I changed his diaper and put him in the crib.  He fell asleep around 9.50pm and hopefully he can sleep through the night.

7 June 2011

Yay! Aston slept through the night again.  He woke up at about 5.45am this morning.  Found him happily sucking his hands and when I went to greet him good morning he gave me this big smile.  I comforted him and told him that I'm going to make his milk first.  I came back into the room still shaking his milk bottle the moment he saw it he gave another big smile and was punching and kicking to show that he can't wait.  He must be really hungry because he finished the whole bottle.  I thought he fell asleep while burping but half way through he let out a loud burp and I found his eyes wide opened.  I thought to myself oh no.. is he going to be awake?? I'm so not ready to fully open my eyes! But anyway, I remained calm continue to burp him for another 5 minutes or so and when I looked at the clock it was already 6.15am.  I put him back to his crib, gave him the pacifier and cover him with his blanket.  He was looking at his puppy book that I put by the side of his crib.  I then took this time to express my breastmilk and I yield slightly less than 4 oz. After expressing, Aston was still awake but I didn't talk to him and let him soothe himself.  I can tell that he's eyes were getting heavy and been yawning a few times.  I went to keep the breastmilk and brought the bottle down for washing and when I came back up he was still not asleep but I could tell it will be anytime soon as he was struggling to keep his eyes opened.  I went back to bed and at about 7.00am I found him deep asleep.  Mummy so proud of you Aston!

Papa woke up early this morning for work.  Before he left he came to give mummy a kiss and I asked him what time it was.  He said it's only 9.15am and he told me that Aston is still asleep.  I told papa that I should wake up and get myself ready while he's still asleep but even before papa stepped out of the house Aston is wide awake already! I went to greet him again and make him his milk.  I changed him into a shirt that grandmama made for him.  It looks like a doctor's coat by the way.  After feeding and burping it was already 10am.  I took him out to the garden for a walk and tried sitting on the swing but only for a minute or so because the sun was shinning at us.  We went back into the house as Aston started to sweat and we had a chat while he sat on his rocking chair.  As I expected, he got hiccups after a few attempts of making some cooing or ahhhs  (it happens all the time!) Anyway, by 10.30am I fed him the left over milk to stop the hiccups and changed his diapers.  He was yawning and showing signs that he's ready to nap.  I put him down in his crib and gave him the pacifier.  While he was self soothing himself to sleep I quickly went and freshen up and took an express shower.  I came back and found him still not sleeping but chatting away with his puppy book.  I gave him the pacifier which he dropped while I was in the shower and by 11.00am he doozed off.  I quickly, went downstairs to heat up the 'zhung' and made myself a cup of tea as my brunch.

He woke up with a foul mood at about 12.30pm and I knew that he wasn't really satisfied with his sleep. I let him whine and wiggle while I expressed my breastmilk.  My insticts was right.  Half way through expressing he fell back asleep.  He woke up 20 minutes later still a little bit cranky but when I went to talk to him he still gave me a small smile but then started whinning again.  I knew he must be hungry because his last feed was at 9.30am.  I fed him and burped him and his a happy boy again.  We chatted for a while on his rocking chair and then I moved him to the play gym.  I lie down next to him looking at him played and then he turned to look at me and started making ahh-goos and coos so we had a short conversation.  I also tried out the sling again tummy to tummy position.  Much better this time but still not perfect as I still need to support his head.  He looks very comfortable but somehow I'm worried for his legs.  It feels like his legs are cramp inside.  I then tried out the cradle position just as I expected he started to whine.  I guess is a sign that he's not comfortable.  We stopped trying the sling and decided to change his diapers and prepare him for his nap.  To show me his love he pee onto the changing station just before I put on the new diapers.  So I cleaned him up and put him back to his play gym while I clean the changing station.  We had a short 5 minutes tummy time as he was getting very grumpy even after I lie him on his back.  I knew he wanted to take his nap.  I quickly put him on his crib and gave him his pacifier and he fell asleep by 2pm.

At 3pm Aston is still asleep and I'm getting hungry.  I went to the kitchen look through what's in the fridge and then in the store room and I found nothing! But because my stomach was grumbling I had another 'zhung' made by another aunty and a cup of milo.  No more 'zhung' for me! Papa when are you going to fix the fridge upstairs? We need more space to stock up food that we like to eat!

Papa came back early and bought us tea time.  Yay! I was so happy that I ate one piece of roti canai and one curry puff.  At about 4.45pm Aston woke up a little cranky.  I assume due to hunger.  Anyway, I fed him and burped him and we took him to meet Russ while the maid cleans the room.  He didn't show much reaction either because he still couldn't see Russ clearly as we still kept Russ a distance or he's just not interested! I put him on the play gym once the room was cleaned and we played till it was about 5.30pm and Aston started to get a little bit fussy.  I thought he wanted to nap so I put him in his crib and gave him his pacifier.  Less than 5 minutes he spit out his pacifier and started chatting away.  I let him be while I expressed my breastmilk.  After that, I gave him a bath and took him to say good night to 'yeh yeh'.  I fed him again at 7.00pm and fell asleep while burping.  However, the moment I lay him down on his crib his eyes was wide open.  I gave him his pacifier and let him soothe himself to sleep.  I went down for my dinner at 7.30pm and at about 8.00pm he gave a loud yell and I came to the rescue.  I gave him his pacifier which fell out and he fell asleep instantly.  Looks like he's going to wake up around midnight or slightly pass midnight for his feed.  Oh boy...no poop for the day again!

6 June 2011

I was awaken by Aston this morning at 6.30am for his feeding and while I was feeding him suddenly it came to my mind that I should blog about my daily routine now that I am a stay at home mum.  By the way I've been reading this blog by Karen Cheng and she really inspires me to update my blog more frequently and my next aim is to pick up papa's DSLR and start taking photos of Aston.  On top of that I've always wanted to keep track of his sleeping schedule so by blogging it I can record down his sleeping time too!

So here goes.....

The first time I woke up this morning I remembered looking at the clock and it was 5am.  Aston was squirming and sucking his hands (his new found hobby) but eyes were still close so I let him be.  I fell asleep but it wasn't really deep because I know I have to wake up and attend to him soon.  At 5.30am I woke up and took a peep at him and he fell asleep again so I continue to sleep.  I heard Aston's voice again and I woke up look at the clock and it was already 6.30am! This round he's eyes open still sucking his hands and smiling away.  He slept since 10pm last night by the way.  Well done Aston! So I woke up and wish him good morning and he always melts my heart by giving me a big warm smile in return with a look that he had a good night sleep.  After giving him a pat and a kiss I told him I'm going to go and make him his milk and come back.  After I prepared his milk, I changed his diapers and fed him.  He fell asleep again before he could even finish his milk but it's OK because the left over was less than 1oz.  So I tried to burp him obviously nothing's happening because he's deep asleep judging from his heavy breathing.  I tried for about 10 minutes or so and put him back on his crib and it was already 7am.  I expressed breast milk and only yield slightly less than 4oz and went back to bed about 7.30am.

9.30am I heard Aston's voice again and he's wide awake.  Again, the moment he saw my face he gave me this big smile and start kicking and punching the air to show he's excitement.  I gave him a pat and a kiss and told him that I'm going to make his milk first.  I changed his pyjamas (he was wearing full bodysuit) into a t-shirt and also changed his diapers.  Fed him and burped him.  After burping him, he was squirming a little and was making some funny noise (usually only hear it if he's pooping).  So, I put him down on his rocking chair and true enough he started pooping.  By the way, he did not poop for the last 2 days which I was getting a bit worried ! I thought babies must poop everyday!! Anyway, since he pooped this morning I can put that behind me.  Anyway, back to the poop... what a major drama this morning!  As usual, I will give him plenty of time to finish off his business as both papa and I had learnt many lessons during the first month where we cleaned him half way he decided to give us a major finale by exploding balance of his poo onto us or after cleaning just when we were about to put on fresh new diapers he decided to pee which we called it the double whammy! So, after he had done his business I will start to prepare the changing station by putting out the new diaper and pull out lots of wet tissues so that it's easier for me to take.  So I carried him onto the changing station and noticed a little bit of the poo had leaked out on his back and dirty the swaddle.  When I opened the diaper I knew it's going to be messy but this morning was the first time it was soooooooo messy! I think while I was moving him from the chair to the changing station the poo leaked even more up his back and after a few wipes I knew it's going no where because my left hand was stuck holding up his legs, while I'm only relying on my right hand to do the necessary cleaning.  So I decided to wrap up the dirty diaper and gave him a bath instead.   With all that commotion going on papa woke up to help fill up the bath tub with warm water.  While we were waiting for the bath tub to be filled up he conveniently pee onto the changing station.  I bathed him while papa cleaned up the changing station.  After all that, I took him to the garden for a walk and by 10.45am I put him down on his crib for his morning nap as he started to be a bit cranky and drowsy.  While papa still have time before leaving for work, I quickly freshen up and took my shower.  Usually, he will be asleep by the time I'm done but not today.  He was still struggling to fall asleep.  By 11.30am he started to be really cranky so I decided feed him his milk as it was time anyway and again he fell asleep before he could finish his milk.

As usual, while he is asleep I will be in front of my computer either on facebook or chatting on msn.  I also did another round of expressing breast milk.  I started writing this blog too.  He woke up around 12.45pm I gave him his pacifier and he manage to fall back asleep.  By 1.30pm just when I wanted to have my lunch he woke up again so I had my lunch in the room while looking at him as he was a bit cranky.  After I finished my lunch I took him out from the crib and put him on his play gym.  I played with him on his play gym and we did some tummy time.  By 2.30pm he was showing signs of hunger so I fed him and burped him.  After being burped I put him on his rocking chair and we had a chat with lots of oohs and ah goos and his favourite "OK".  We also did some reading and by 3.00pm he was showing signs that he's ready for his nap.  I put him in his crib gave him his pacifier and let him soothe himself to sleep.

At 4.00pm he woke up again.  He woke up a bit cranky so I assumed he was not very satisfied with his short nap.  I tried soothing him but failed.  So I took him out and put him on his play gym.  It only lasted till 4.30pm and he started getting cranky again so I fed him and burped him.  He slept again at 5.30pm and woke up at 6.00pm.  I expressed my breast milk first which this round I yield slightly more than 30z and then gave him a bath.  Today papa came home early so he helped to bath Aston too.  After bath, I took him downstairs to say hello and good night to 'yeh yeh' and then fed him at 7.00pm.  We had a short chat after that and he slept at 7.30pm and I had my dinner.

Aston woke up again at 8.30pm and because he wasn't hungry yet we decided to try out the sling that I borrowed from a girlfriend of mine.  We even switched on YouTube but somehow we still couldn't figure out how to use it.  We're planning to use the sling when we attend a wedding dinner in Malacca this coming weekend instead of using the stroller.  As you know seating during the banquet is quite tight and we doubt we can squeeze in our stroller in between us that is why I decided to try out the sling.  Oh well, if the sling fails looks like we have no choice but to use the stroller instead.  Anyway, he started getting cranky after a few attempts of getting him in and out of the sling.  At 9.00pm I fed him again and both papa and I had a chat with him till 9.30pm and we put him to bed for him to soothe himself to sleep.

It is now 10.20pm and Aston is asleep.  Hopefully, he will sleep through the night and is time for me to take my rest.
